Kilworth Springs member Steve Sansome took the Leicestershire and Rutland Golf Union's spring tournament for the coveted Fraser Trophy by storm. It was decided this year at Willesley Park and Rutland County. Two rounds were played on each course, making the 72-hole championship over 2-days on 2 different courses one of the toughest of the season. Steve shot 2-under-par-138 at Willesley Park, where he had 68-70 rounds, then at Rutland County, he fired 70-68 for 4-under-138 there. His 6-under-276 aggregate saw him finish no fewer than 12 strokes clear of the field. .jpg) Steve Sansome receives the Robin Fraser Trophy from County President Tony Harper This is his first county amateur title since he regained his amateur status late last year. At one point in his last round he had 6 birdies in 7-holes from the fifth, and also birdied the last. Sam Mayfield from Kilworth Springs on 291 ended in 4th.place in this event, signing off with 2-under-69 at Rutland County in his final session. David Evrall, also from Kilworth Springs, was one shot behind - on 292 - sharing 5th.on the final leaderboard. |
