Mobile Phones
IMPORTANT NOTICE
The Committee have taken advice from The R & A on the issue of mobile phone use, and the following instructions will take immediate effect.
The use of mobile phones as telephones
Whilst The Committee would prefer that mobile phones are not taken onto the golf course, it is acknowledged that there are occasions when their use is justified in an emergency. Medical emergencies, either involving members on the course, or their immediate family and close relatives, are two such occasions.
Consequently, it is permissible for mobile phones to be used as telephones on the course in emergency situations only. We would ask that the devices be set to silent/vibrate where possible so as to avoid annoyance to playing partners.
However, in the event that a player uses his/her phone in circumstances which do not constitute an emergency, causing distraction to others, then that player may still be disqualified from a competition by The Committee for a serious breach of etiquette under Rule 33-7.
